Frequently asked questions

Bodybrains provides 1:1 sessions, including therapy cycles (4-10 sessions and ongoing work, as needed) as well as brief counselling (1-3 sessions). Sessions can be online or in person. We sometimes run groups and workshops. We also provide consulting to other service providers.
-
The easiest way to get started is by filling out this service request form - I’ll then have the basic info I need to determine if I’m likely to be a suitable match for you (if your support need is within my scope of practice). From there, I’ll get back to you to run through any questions and set up a session time.

Bodybrains session work is suitable for humans with a sense of
feeling lost, directionless, bored, over it
feeling pressured or stuck in making a decision
desiring to recover a more vibrant and enlivening experience of the world
seeking to integrate experiences that have made you wonder if you might be an alien.
These are all natural human feelings. In some instances, they may be in association with categories such as complex traumatic stress/CPTSD, anxiety and depression, chronic stress or overwhelm. My approach is highly neurodivergence-informed.
I also work with people towards goals associated with functional outcomes, often in a context of disability. For this type of work, my scope is in the realm of building neurophysiological capacity so that the sensations of life are less overwhelming and draining.

My basic session rate is $155.
Some types of service (those with more complex planning requirements or travel) will incur additional billable time outside of the session hour. This will always be clearly communicated in writing, in advance. See the Fees and Funding section down the page for more details.

Contained, collaborative, and focused on using the playful and creative mind to meet challenges. I’m here to help shape your process, and offer different perspectives and specialist knowledge.
Depending on what we’re aiming to do, this could take the form of me being more directive or less directive, more verbal or less verbal, more focused on your edge or on your comfort. The approach is not formulaic.

Location and frequency
Where are you?
Bodybrains HQ is in Monbulk, which is in the Dandenong Ranges. For online sessions, my timezone is AEST/AEDT (Melbourne).
Can you travel to my home or another location?
I do travel to homes, schools and other sites - so this may be possible, depending on the location and timing. Additional fees for travel will usually apply.
Do you do online sessions/telehealth?
Yes. This works really well for some people, although it’s not for everyone. This option means we can work together regardless of where in the country you are.
Can I come to you?
Very possibly. I have access to a spacious, calm studio adjoining a bushland reserve in Monbulk. This is used by other therapists, so it depends on availability.
How often are sessions?
Most people I work with choose to have sessions at either weekly or fortnightly intervals. This enables us both to hold a regular, predictable timeslot for a period of time. Although you can stop whenever you want, I usually suggest a series of 3-10 sessions (known as a cycle), after which we check in and decide whether to continue for another cycle, pause, or conclude.
An initial session can be a good idea to see how we fit together in person (if I’m the right person to support you) before planning a longer cycle.
Fees and funding
Do you work with NDIS participants? Can I use NDIS funding?
Yes, I do. It is possible to use NDIS funding to see a registered arts therapist under Capacity building - Improved Daily Living (Therapy and Assessment) - Item Number: 15_610_0128_1_3 (Art Therapist). This information is accurate in 2026.
What are your session fees?
Base rate for session work: $155/hour
For functional developmental therapy (e.g. NDIS plan work): $190/session (75 mins: inclusive of 60 min session + ~15 mins of billable non-face-to-face time*)
Provider travel fee is calculated as travel time (by part hour) x 50% of hourly rate, to a maximum of $80.
~
*Non-face-to-face (NF2F) service as billable time is industry standard for allied health private practitioners with equivalent level of training, including OTs and speech therapists alongside creative arts therapists. While the need for NF2F service is determined on a case by case basis, this type of service is required for almost all NDIS-funded sessions where functional developments is the focus. It includes tasks such as session-specific planning and preparation, clinical note taking, space setting, and equipment sourcing/maintenance.
Can I get money back through Medicare if I have a MHCP from my doctor?
Medicare rebates do not currently exist for art therapy.
General information about this: My base rate is similar to the out-of-pocket amount payable (after the Medicare refund) for a typical clinical psychology session. If you are on the waitlist for a suitable psychologist, I may be able to support you in the interim. While I do not have the same diagnostic powers and treatment approaches as a clinical psych, I am an allied healthcare clinician with a focus on mental health, trauma and neurodivergence.
What is your cancellation policy?
There is no fee if a session is cancelled with 48 hours notice. Full session fee is charged if cancellation is within 24 hours of the appointment, or 50% of the fee if cancelled with 24-48 hours notice. Travel fees are not charged unless travel took place before the session was cancelled.
Availability
What is your availability?
Availability depends on your preferred location - for example, an online session may be available at a time when an in-person session is not. Please fill in this form to let me know what you’re looking for, and I will provide scheduling options as a next step in the process.
Session hours are scheduled Monday to Friday during standard business hours.
While I don’t have set office hours, but I’ll usually be able to respond to emails within a few days. I do not have a receptionist, which is why I encourage emails (rather than phone calls) as a first point of contact.
Formal accreditation
What is your registration/qualification?
I am an arts therapist registered with ANZACATA as Professional Member. This requires me to undergo regular professional development and supervision.
Professional Members of ANZACATA are considered allied health practitioners by the standards of Allied Health Professions Australia.
My qualification is Master of Creative Arts Therapy (Dance Movement Therapy) from the University of Melbourne.
